This morning, Brad's temperature was normal. He was awakened at 4:00 in the morning by the nurse to get his temperature. Rhonda said he just hopped out of bed with no problems to go to the restroom. When they woke up later, he seemed in pretty good shape. When I went by this morning, he was grouchy but in good physical shape. Dr. Koury was pleased when he came by.

When I went by for lunch, he was super grouchy and irritable. However, physically he seemed really good. His temperature was 98.6 and he was breathing pretty well. Dr. Wade (pulmonary specialist) came by to check him because she had anticipated having to draw more fluid off his lungs. She was impressed with his appearance and his vital signs, so she changed her mind about the fluid. She did leave orders to change his antibiotics if the temperature spiked again during the night.

As I mentioned, Brad has been really grouchy all day, to the point that Rhonda left the hospital and Liz (grandmother) went to the waiting room. When I was there, he got so irritated at me that he got up and left the room, pushing his own IV contraption. That tells me he's ready to come home and I've started to get my hopes up that tomorrow's the day. However, Rhonda just called and said that he's been in extreme pain this afternoon. She's walked him six times (everyone has been telling us that is his ticket home), so she thought maybe she walked too much. I told her that's not it and that everyone says he's just going to hurt until he gets better. I'm spending the night tonight and she warned me not to expect much sleep.

This is a typical roller coaster cycle...thinking during the day that he's ready to come home, then hearing that his pain is unbearable. He can't come home until his pain is manageable with Lorcet.
