Interesting Visit to Florida

Tagged , : Mike's Opinion of Brad's Medical Issues

Mike seems to think that Brad does not have Scheurmann's kyphosis which is determined by having 3 or more vertebra in a row that have 5 degrees or more of wedging. Brad did not have this. Instead, Mike thinks he's got stiff postural roundback which may correct itself somewhat with time and growth. Having his pectus surgery has changed the dynamics of everything--pushing the sternum out has caused the back to curve forward. It's like his back is longer than his front if that makes any sense. As he grows, there may be some correction. He said back surgery can be done at any time. Why not wait until the bar comes out and he's finished growing? As for the scoliosis, Brad does not have the classic "S" curve...his is more like a "C".

Mike did not even put the brace on Brad, he just looked at it and said he wouldn't wear it either. There is a more user friendly brace called the Jewett brace that Mike thinks will suit Brad better. So...another trip to Florida in the near future.
