Last night, I slept at home for a change. The dawgs were happy to spend some time with me. I was frustrated that Brad wasn't trying hard enough to get better and wasn't interested at all in getting out of bed.
The night time crew is nowhere near as competent as the daytime folks, which we learned last night. Brad wouldn't try to walk while I was around, but after I left, he gave it a try. He walked just a little ways using a walker, then came back to his room. While trying to get him back in bed, they screwed up and twisted him a little. With that bar in him, he just can't be turned side to side. He ended up in extreme pain.
This morning, Beth came home and I picked her up at the Kroger's in Jackson around 6:30. When I got to the hospital, Brad was kinda whiny. After a while, he came around and walked down the hall a little bit, then started back for his room. I dropped a $20 on the floor down by the nurses' station and told him it was a $100 bill. He paused for a moment, then told the therapists that he would try for the $100. He made it, so I told him it was a $20 and an IOU for $80. I ended up getting the money from ATM downstairs.
He's just walked again and did pretty well. It seems to me that you're pretty much just in maintenance mode if you're in the hospital over the weekend. The doctor that's covering for Dr. Koury (Dr. Berry) said pretty honestly that they try not to make any changes in treatment that could complicate things since the doctors aren't around like they are during the week. He left the catheter in and just encouraged him to move around as much as he can.
I don't think he's walking enough and pain-free enough to go home. I know they wouldn't send morphine home, so if he can't manage the pain without it, he's stuck here.
He's been sitting up for a while now playing PSP and has forgot about the pain, so I'm a little encouraged.
